R & D

Research & Development

We are active in research and development for new products and applications. A technology watch is constantly kept to ensure that high performance solutions are always available at the right price. Through our links with City University, London we have access to excellent laboratory facilities and leading edge 'know-how'.

An example of this cooperation is trials with a novel concrete sensor, that promises to detect ASR within a few hours of concrete being mixed. Hopes are that the same sensor, which also detects more general quality parameters, will be routinely embedded in all concrete structures.

In the area of concrete impregnation, trials were recently completed to access the freeze-thaw protection provided by Pavix impregnation. Other investigations are ongoing into Pavix impregnation of ancient monument stonework.
A further example of the practical investigation work was full scale testing of deep beams repaired with carbon fibre inlays. The inclusion of optical fibres is an interesting option with this.

An important and ongoing objective of this web-site is to provide an informative body of information for clients, engineers and students concerned with the protection, repair and improvement of buildings and structures.
